In the vast and industrious commerce of tea — that most democratic of beverages, consumed with equal devotion by the merchant at his counting house and the smallholder at his morning fire — it has long been understood by those who know the trade best that economy and excellence are by no means adversaries. The wisest blending houses in the world’s greatest tea markets have built their most celebrated products not upon the extravagance of the finest grade alone, but upon the judicious selection of grades suited precisely to purpose. It is in this spirit — practical, honest, and thoroughly commercial — that we present our Uganda Black CTC Tea, Secondary Grades: a collection of offerings that honour both the intelligence of the buyer and the integrity of the origin.
Comprising PF (Pekoe Fannings), FNGS (Fannings), and BP (Broken Pekoe), these secondary grades are drawn from the same distinguished tea estates of Uganda’s high-altitude growing regions — Bushenyi, Igara, Rukungiri, and the magnificent Rwenzori highlands — that produce some of the finest CTC tea on the African continent. They are available for bulk export at USD 1,500 to USD 1,700 per metric tonne: a price that reflects not any want of quality, but rather the honest arithmetic of particle size, classification, and the specific commercial applications for which these grades are most admirably suited.
Of Uganda’s Tea Heritage — A Brief Account Most Deserving of Attention
Uganda entered the community of tea-producing nations in the early twentieth century, and the decades since have brought such steady improvements in cultivation, manufacture, and export capability that the country has established itself as Africa’s second-largest tea exporter by volume. The auction rooms of Mombasa have long received Ugandan tea with the respect due to an origin of consistent and dependable character.
Buyers from Pakistan — the world’s most voracious consumer of black tea — from Egypt, Sudan, the United Kingdom, and Russia have built lasting commercial relationships with Ugandan tea suppliers, drawn by the tea’s celebrated attributes: high cream content, bright and attractive liquor, robust infusion strength, and a manufacturing consistency that speaks to the professionalism of the industry at every stage from garden to port.
The secondary grades carry these same attributes, expressed at a particle size and price point that opens the widest possible range of commercial applications to the discerning bulk buyer.
The Secondary Grades — Each One Examined with Due Care
PF — Pekoe Fannings: A well-regarded fannings grade offering good colour development and a clean, bright cup. The natural and economical choice for standard tea bag production, private label packing, and retail blend formulations requiring reliable performance at accessible pricing.
FNGS — Fannings: A small-particle grade of considerable versatility, producing strong, richly coloured infusions well suited to budget tea bag formulations, institutional catering supply, and markets where brewing strength and cup colour are the primary commercial requirements.
BP — Broken Pekoe: A coarser broken grade producing a full, hearty, and robust cup — admirably suited to loose-leaf blending, catering-grade packing, and those markets that prize a thick, strong brew of genuine character.

The Commercial Case, Stated Plainly
For the importer, packer, or brand owner operating in competitive markets where the management of cost is as essential as the management of quality, Uganda Secondary Grade Black CTC Tea is a proposition of considerable commercial intelligence. These grades deliver the fundamental virtues of Ugandan tea — reliable colour, adequate strength, and consistent brewing performance — at a price point that allows the construction of highly competitive retail, foodservice, and private label products without the sacrifice of origin integrity.
Uganda’s equatorial position enables year-round production and export availability — a logistical advantage of no small significance when compared to origins constrained by a single harvest season. Combined with the efficiency of FOB Mombasa, one of East Africa’s most capable and well-connected export ports, these teas arrive reliably documented, competitively priced, and thoroughly suited to the requirements of the international bulk tea trade.
